    Forum Signature Guidelines

    Back to top' Permalink by Mod_Naiad - Jul 7, 10 2:51 PM
    Hiya Caretakers!

As many of you have already discovered, there's a new feature in the forums that allow you to attach a signature to each post and reply you make. This is an awesome way to express yourself, set yourself apart, or alert other folks to any additional information you'd like to share.

Sirren, Mod_Mngwa and I wanted to outline some guidelines for these signatures to get everyone started and make sure that they remain a positive new addition.

First and foremost, always comply with our General Rules and Terms of Use, which can be found in our General Rules for Faunasphere help article or directly in our Terms of Use. (For example: no swearing or offensive remarks, no harassing or threatening other users, no links to third-party websites not on our safe sites list, and no advertisements for other games or products, etc.)

Keep it brief, no more than 4-5 lines is standard

Don't include animations or pictures (the emoticons that are available for all forum posts are ok though!)

Don't include any personal information, such as your email address or real name

If you're a volunteer tester you must indicate so in your signature

When setting up your signature, also keep in mind that what you choose will be an addition to each and every forum thread in which you participate. It'll help to consider how much space they'll take up and how they'll look to other folks.

Have fun and send us a PM if you have any questions or concerns!

Thanks for clarifying the guidelines Mod N....

Noles, I did like your little bit of animation, but having been on some sites that allowed unlimited animation, colors, graphics and music.......3 minutes for a message to load, a nightmare.

    Hi All,

I just wanted to pop in for a second and clarify something. The reason these guidelines were not posted beforehand is because we needed to see how the signatures would perform on this environment. The reason for some of the content guidelines is because we have discovered that certain content can cause the forum threads to load slower than usual, certain graphics do not always appear correctly on every machine, and it can take up excess room in the threads. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused anyone.

I, for one, am glad we do not have the pictures. While very fun and cute.... they were also very very distracting while trying to read the post. And when you have a forum signature that takes up 10 times as much space as the post the person made, well, that just seems a bit of a waste to me.

*sits in chair and puts on protective clothing while waiting for noles to throw pies*

Not sure where the pictures were found anyway. But i'm sure it was not on the FS site....

hmm.... let see..blueberry... yeah... that stains nicely!!!

well i have been in several forums with animated avatars and animated sigs... and i have never read a thread where it was a problem.

np.. i was seriously thinking about taking it off...as when i would want to respond to a 'sad' topic... that wasnt the most appropriate thing to have on there.

Not that it wasnt fun... cause that is what seems to be lacking here.

The picture came off my computer which could have easily been posted to flickr and then here. (but yes, wouldnt have been animated)

Thanks for telling where you got it from. Some things are still so foreign to me. It's always nice to learn something new.

I wouldn't mind being able to choose my own avatar - don't much care one way or another about the signature line - have one, just to express my individuality

May I ask the official position on begging in signatures? I've already seen a few and was curious.

Also curious about one that had some violence in it.

    Hiya,

I wanted to answer your question about asking for items, Lux, or Bux in a signature, pisceschick.

Begging is technically asking for an item persistently which then becomes a harassment issue, but there is a difference between that and making a request. At this time it is not against the signature guidelines because it is just that -- a request. They are not going in the game and asking other players persistently.

    Julie,

I don't understand your question. The testers play on both the test site and here, so you haven't lost them.
